This page explains what personal data Covr collects, why, and what you can demand about it. We wrote it to be read, not to cover ourselves.

Who is responsible for your data

KLACK, société par actions simplifiée (SAS), operating the Covr service, registered at 10 avenue Antoine Quinson, 94300 Vincennes, France (company number 880 230 628), is the data controller.

For any question or request: contact@covrmusic.com.

What we collect, and why

  • Your artist name and email address, as soon as you start a release. That is how we answer you and send your payment link. Legal basis: pre-contractual steps taken at your request.
  • Your Instagram or TikTok handle, if you give it. Optional, to understand who we're talking to. Legal basis: your consent.
  • The song you are covering and what you changed about it, if anything. We need it to know which clearance your release requires. Legal basis: performance of our contract, and our copyright obligations.
  • Your audio file and artwork. Legal basis: performance of our contract.
  • Your legal name, postal address and payment details, once the track goes to distribution. The distribution platform requires them to pay your share; you enter them directly with it. Legal basis: performance of our contract.
  • Technical data (IP address, browser) sent by your browser. Of your IP address we keep only a hashed fingerprint, to curb abusive submissions. We don't use it for advertising and we set no tracking cookies.

Who we share it with

We never sell your data, to anyone.

We share it only with the providers the service needs:

  • Soundrop (Audio and Video Labs, Inc., USA), our distribution platform. It receives your name, email and address to create your account and pay your share directly. Its own privacy policy applies.
  • Wasabi Technologies, which hosts your audio file and artwork. They are stored in its European region in Paris, France.
  • Hostinger (France), which hosts our server and our database. That is where your release details live.
  • OVHcloud (France), our mail provider, which carries the emails we exchange with you.
  • Deezer, only when you search for the song you are covering: what you type is sent to its public search engine to suggest matches. Nothing else reaches it.
  • Our payment provider, to take the 10 € per track. We never see or store your card number.

Soundrop and Wasabi are US companies, even though Wasabi stores your files in France. Transfers rely on the European Commission's standard contractual clauses or on the EU-US Data Privacy Framework.

How long we keep it

  • A submission you never finished: twelve months, then we delete the record and any files already uploaded.
  • Release data: for as long as the track stays available, then ten years for accounting and tax obligations.
  • Audio files: deleted within twelve months of a takedown.

Your rights

At any time you can request access to your data, its correction, its deletion, its portability, a restriction of processing, or object to processing. You can also withdraw your consent at any time; every email we send carries an unsubscribe link.

Write to contact@covrmusic.com, we answer within a month.

If our answer doesn't satisfy you, you can lodge a complaint with the CNIL: www.cnil.fr.
